Merge or split? Choosing the right PDF operation

Four of our most-used tools all reorganise pages, and picking the wrong one costs you a round trip. This is the short version.
Merge PDF
Use it when you have several files that belong together — a scanned contract, its annexes and a cover letter — and you want a single document in a specific order.
Split PDF
Use it to cut one document into several files, for example one file per chapter or a fixed number of pages each.
Extract and remove pages
Extract pulls a page range out into a new PDF and leaves the original untouched. Remove keeps everything except the pages you list. Reach for these when you only care about a handful of pages.
